Today’s question

Why didn’t J. Edgar Hoover appear and destroy them?

Discuss.

Excuse my ignorance. Destroy what? Anything that would threaten his hold on the FBI? His dreams? Un-American life in general?

Big Guy, tell me you’re being coy…if anyone should get this reference, it’s you…

  3. OK, so no one has any guesses? It’s not a trivia question–I’m genuinely curious.

I guess Ray might have thought of the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man before Peter mentioned J. Edgar Hoover, but that doesn’t make Peter’s statement any less irresponsible. If no one else had thought of anything, the Destructor should have taken the form of J. Edgar Hoover.

Okay, now that I have thought this through. Gozer wanted a complete mental image. S/He wanted a complete mental image so it could produce something. Even though Venkmen said J. Edgar Hoover, he didnt mentally conjure up an image of the former FBI head. Ray, however did, when the Stay Puffed “popped” in their. And now you have a hundred foot marshmellow man stomping his way through Times Square. Fun times for all.

and of course I mean “there” not “their”

  7. Your theory seems sound. I still would like to see a parody with a giant J. Edgar Hoover, though…
